Its not the dirt that kills the oil. Oil filters will filter it out so the dirt particles are small enough without damaging the engine. It is the molecules that shatter and break down in regular oil. They are like little ball bearings that keep the metal to metal contact from happening. When they break down the engine starts wearing. The synthetic oil does not break down at the same rate. It lasts much longer. That is why they send it in to be analyzed. To see if it is still stable.
