I got to run it swung all the way open for several reasons. One mostly when I mow I lay the hay down as wide as the pickup, 6.5 ft, to help it dry faster. Two on some of my steeper fields the chopper will tend to wanna slide back behind the tractor. Three it's easier to get it to go into the last hole. Probably when I set it up to chop or snap corn I will run it as narrow as possible to get as straight a line of pull as possible.
