Cowboy Question Re : Lariet

This is probably a dumb ? Last winter at a sale I bought a lariet,quick release,new .Last week I went to use it and it was soooo!!! stiff that it was unusable .I mean you can't hardly make a loop or get the kinks out . is there a way to " break it in " ,condition it ,make it usable ? A cowboy secret? Help,This makes #9 wire seem flexible.
