I have a 2003 F250 FX4 with the 6.0L diesel and about 95,000 miles. I had trouble with the air conditioner, have replaced the fuel pump, and some other little things that seemed to happen all at once; and really almost turned me against the superduty series. But I haven't had any troubles since. The 6.0 is a strong and efficient engine. The last time I checked highway fuel economy was at 19 miles per gallon running 75mph. I think I average 15-16mpg though because I'm too into fast takeoffs. Your son should consider the loads he is going to pull. Maintenance costs are alot higher for a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel truck, but if you pull heavy loads alot of miles, then they are the way to go. I only pull two horses occasionally, but bought the truck thinking it would last me forever, and planning to expand the herd and get a 4-horse gooseneck. Honestly, if the truck is not going to be used for constant heavy work, I'd consider the Toyota Tundra. The last time I checked, they had the best reliability ratings. That might get me blacklisted on this website, but it is a fact. Check with Consumer Reports.

My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
