Bob, You will find that this discussion will lead to a bunch of opinions. Which is better, Chevy or Ford? It depends on who you ask. You will probably find that a lot of tractors out there will meet your needs, and you will get the one in the best shape at the best price. I wouldn't even rule out the Japanese, except for the fact that they are about 1 1/2 times the price of older US tractors. Things about the N's to think about are: 1. Lack of "live" PTO. Definitely get a slip clutch if you get an "N", and be aware that the PTO stops being driven when the clutch is pressed. Good articles here in the archines about "Live" vs. "Non-Live" PTO's. 2. THe N's have only 4 speeds. Is this going to work for your needs? First is NOT a creeper gear. 3. The 8N is less than 30 hp. This means 4' rotary cutter max, straining on a 2 bottom plow, etc. I would also stay with what you can easily get parts & service for. The Ford "hundred" series is my favorite, but parts are still widely available for Deere, Case, and IH/Farmall. Not sure about Massey. My opinion and good luck. Tommy Duvall Dalton, Ga.
