Give this a try. I believe you are 180' off on your timing.
1. Take distributor cap off and bump the starter
noting which direction the rotor turns.
2. Take out #1 spark plug.
3. Bump the starter with your thumb or finger
over the spark plug hole, and stop when you feel
air blow out forcefully.
4. Next, take a look at your timing marks, and
turn the engine by hand to get the pointer at 0',
or TDC (top dead center)
5. Next, look at where the brass contact on the
ignition rotor is pointing (it shoud be pointing
at #1 wire terminal on the cap..my bet is that is
not.
6. If not, take the bolt out of the distributor
lock and pull the distributor out just far enough
so that you can freely turn the rotor with your fingers.
7. Turn so that the rotor is pointing slightly
ahead of the #1 spark plug tower (the gear on the
bottom is angled and will further turn the rotor
as you replace the distributor). You may have to
do this a couple of times until you end up with the
rotor pointing at # 1.
8. Now relock the distributor, replace the plug,
and try to start. Once running, you can fine tune
the timing to factory spec.

If this doesn't help you, or it still won't start,

you with a couple other things that could be
wrong.
