Anything slippery will work fine as long as there is no petroleum in it. There's no special concoction needed. Just make sure the sleeves fall into place with little effort when the o-rings are NOT in. Then - when pushing in the sleeves for final assembly - you know what you feel is the o-ring resistance and nothing else. The issue with Deere is the orange o-rings. They are designed to swell up as soon as they make contact with oil. So, obviously, if you use any oil - you could be in for a mess.
