Thank you for the pictures, something you do not see every day or care to as a matter of fact. My father always told of a freight train with about twenty cars behind it being wedged into a snow drift. This was in 1936 and it stayed there till spring. He said grandpa and many neighbors used to haul coal and firewood so it would not freeze. They lowered buckets on ropes to the tracks and guys would chip ice and fill the buckets. After they pulled the ice buckets to the top they would dump the buckets on bob sleds with dump boards then haul it away and dump and return. Grandpa was paid well for his work, but he lost the farm shortly there after anyway. He noted that by the time it got wedged the snow was packed pretty hard, then the hot engine would always melt the snow to ice. This with more weekly snows drifting it shut again kept it there till spring. Yet he always refered to the good ol days. Go figure. NE IA Dave
