Helps to know what model engine you are referring to. That said, there should be 3 ports; 1 for gas in, 1 for gas out, & 1 for vacuum. Try blowing gently on each port; when you blow on the gas in port the air should exit the out port. The remaining opening should be vacuum. Suck on it to determine if it holds.
