I think those crawlers use a Caterpillar engine, they are purpose built for the job, from my memorys of living in England the driver can get out of the cab roof and close everything off including the exhaust and air intake and go back to the tractor when the tide goes out if they get into trouble. Those tractors replaced a fleet of waterproofed Fowler Challenger 3 crawlers which is the tractor I remember when I was a kid living in Sheringham on the north Norfolk coast, they in turn replaced Case (LA trators I think) that had Roadless tracks and were also waterproofed. The crews are volunteers and some have made the ultimate sacrifice to help ships crews in trouble
