Just spent $1000 on a 1987 VW Jetta that is worth $1700. Struts, rear shocks, and CV joints. The body and interior are in excellent for a 20 year old car. It has 248,000 mikes on it, doesn't use any oil between changes, and runs like a top. Even with a brand new replacement engine, I will come out way ahead over buying another(newer) car.
