Trying to weld your block would be a major job.
In order to do it you would have to preheat the
entire block, weld a very short bead and allow
it to cool down to the preheat temp before welding
another bead. It is very time consuming and
you'll have to line bore,hone and deck the block
when your done.
I would try to find a good used block.
