Well thanks all for the comments and information. Likely I will drive it for 12 to 15 years, maybe more if I can keep the fuc&^%$ salt from eating it. My 86 is getting some rust issues here and there. The sheetmetal is still decent as I have oiled the voids nearly every year, however the front suspension is geting questionable due to rust and I have 200000 on it. I live in Rhode Island. I want a cab and chassie because I don't like pickup bodies, and would be taking it off anyway to put my existing flatbed on, or possibly building a fresh one. I want it simple so it is easier/less costly to fix. I don't like a bunch of automatic stuff either, would rather control it myself. Anyway, thanks for all the replies, some good points to get me thinking.
