howdy from the great state of south dakota! been along time since i've been on this little white box. i've stopped in a time or two but decided i better get back to work.
i think the last anybody heard from me was the first part of march. i headed to florida for a wedding and made a vacation out of it. when i got back i decided that working for ford and dodge just wasn't doing it for me anymore and i decided to leave. after several long nights of wearing out pencils i decided to expand my operation slowly rather than go too large too quick. i took a job with a neighbor as a farm hand, which thanks to him i have been able to grow faster myself this year than originly planned. he rowcrops about 10,000 acres of beans and corn, has about 2,000 acres in small grain and another 1,000 in alfalfa. he custom feeds 350 head of dairy heifers for a neighboring dairy and also run about 400 head of beef. needless to say i've been very busy, hence the time away from the computer.
the home farm has been doing well. the hogs are doing great. got one ready to farrow again here any day now. i put up about 200 acres in hay this year and have some beans and corn of my own also. working on some cattle lots now so i can custom feed cattle this winter for a few guys.
as for the wife and myself, we are expecting. maggie is due nov. 5th. it will be our first so it's getting pretty exciting around here. so far everything has been perfect!
we've got about a week left of silage chopping and then we'll be starting on beans so i probably won't be around again till harvest is done but i'm gonna try to stop in at least once a week if i can.

Today's Featured Article - The Nuts and Bolts of Fasteners - Part 2 - by Curtis Von Fange. In our previous article we discussed capscrews, bolts, and nuts along with their relative hardness and thread sizes. In this segment we will finish up on our fasteners and then work with ways to keep them from loosening up in the field. Capscrews, bolts and nuts are not the only means of holding two parts together. When dealing with thinner metals like sheet tin, a long bolt and ... [Read Article]
