: : : : Help please. We have a small 16 acre farm in the nothern Waillamette Valey of Oregon.
: : : : We need a tractor with a front end loader, something to pull a manure spreeder, hall a hay wagon,
: : : : brush hog the weeds, and till our small garden.
: : : : We owned a 1940's MH with no 3pt pto. We are VERY CONFUSCED about what type, power et all
: : : : we want in a older used tractor. Any input would be appreciated. P.S. We are not gifted
: : : : mechanics. Thank You Candy

: : : You may want to look for a Ford 3000 or 4000. Built in the 60's. Around here they go for aroun 5-6000. They will have plenty of diesel power and can take the work.
: : : Some tips: Live hydraulics, power steering with a loader, 3-pt hitch ( many implements available )
: : : Good luck I hope I have helped. Leave a post on what you buy.

: : Rick is right on the money. Have also used a John Deere 830 with good results.

: Don't get wraped up in what kind of tractor to by, find a good dealer in your area and have him help you. The dealer can service the rig and anser most of your question on size attachments and service. Good luck

I don't know if I'd so much advise going to a dealer as I would to a good mechanic. Personally I'd shy away from one brand because of hydralic system failure encountered by a friend on several. I was leaning toward that brand until the problem was brought to my attention by a couple of mechanics and farmer friends. I think the buyer should look realistically at the work he might want to perform and buy a tractor a little bigger than that. More power to ya' and all that. YOu may consider looking into the 2000 series of Fords or as suggested, green ones. According to my mechanic, JD has phased out the 10 series parts and will be doing the same for the 20's soon. Hope I haven't confused you. Later, Me
