Stuart: I just purchased one for my 1948 Farmall model C. I remember in the early '50's using one on a "C" and it was made of hard wood for durability and to prevent fingers freezing to metal at minus 25 degrees of burning at +100 degrees in the Summer sun. Most important because one does not always have, or want, gloves on your hands.. We generally positioned it at the 10-o-clock position for the left hand as the right was often used for shifting or other control work..hope this helps a bit. HR in MN. USA
