O.T. Chainsaw Chuckle...

About a 4 square mile section of my town got spanked by severe T-storms last night (same one lit off an oil tanker -- the boat kind -- off loading in Providence!)...I think the final count was 9 road closures from wires down, and I personally know of 5 major buildings hit by trees.

My property had nothing to write home about, except one snag that will be challenge...I'll sit and think about it for a few weeks.

But I went out and cleaned up the firehouse parking lot. Ran through a tank of gas, decided to through on my new blade. The one that was on it needed a sharpening after I cut some stumps down low with it a couple weeks back.

Hmmm, don't fit...

I help the firehouse's next door neighbor zip up a large limb while I had my equipment there, then he headed back to his fairly young apple orchard which had several trees that where leaning.

I went to the saw shop...

Brought my Stihl with a 20" bar in with me to make sure there'd be no mistakes, "Yeah, I bought this new chain here this spring, and I think it's a few links short..."

Counter guy pulls it out of the cardboard Stihl box, "Er, yep...that's for an 18" bar on a Husqvarna."

Had to chuckle. Mistakes happen, at least the counter guy knew his stuff to recognize it right away!

Heading home, I checked the backside of my property...road had been closed in the morning still. Tree on my back property line had taken out the powerlines when it went down across the road. Neighbor Henry whose in his mid-50s and runs a nice cordwood side business (100 cords a year, $165/cord...), for exercise I helped Henry finish cutting it up and piling the branches for the Town Crew to chip. He has an older JD Backhoe / Front End Loader he had used to pull most of the pieces into the parking lot of the recreation fields there so we weren't in the road. The two of us, the backhoe, and his 1970-something dump truck made short work of the tree.
