Just to point out not all 3000's are the same. We had a '66 3000 and its nick name was the gutless wonder. It was gutless going up a hill and you wondered if it would hold together going down the other side. In '67 the x000 got a ~20% hp boost and were much better tractor. On dry ground and just about all hills we used the 851 to bale until we got the '65-5000 diesel. We used the 5000 to run the 9' NH haybine and bale. The 3000 was used to chase wagons and rake. Our neighbor had a show case farm, his self propelled haybine was down and needed green chop for the cows. He asked if I would cut a couple of loads of alfala. I put the wings on the haybine and said to follow me up. He said he would give me a 2 hour head start... I said to suit himself.
About 45 min into the job he showed up with a MF 1130 pulling the chopper. I had the Ford in second gear wide open and cut/conditioned just a little faster than he could chop. That night he called my dad and asked if I could accompany him to buy a new haybine. In 1973 I spent $10700 of my neighbors money on a NH self propelled haybine with Ford power unit.
