When did the money issue become the top priority in our hobby? Why is it the people that administer our clubs think the bottom line is all that matters?
I am currently participating in the EDGE&TA national show in southern Washington. I hauled a tractor 300 miles to "help" the branch put on a good display.
Most of the show was well thought out. Parking is about 1/8 mile from the show grounds and they have buses that haul participants and the public to the grounds.
Saturday morning I got up early and helped our branch from southern Oregon set up our display. I left and went back to the motel to get my wife and grandson and go back to the show grounds. I went into the parking area just as required. When we were ready to board the bus the lady that was co-ordinating the bus loading told me it would be $5.00 for each adult. I calmly explained that we were exhibitors and should not have to pay. She was very forceful that if we didn"t pay, then we wouldn"t be getting on the bus. I payed the $10.00 and went on over to the show grounds.
I always swore that if I ever had to pay to exhibit at another clubs show, I would just leave and take my display with me. The problem is that the club members that had our club display set up were counting on me to help.
I was told by our branch president that he talked to someone and that if I went to so and so I could get my $10.00 back.
A note to all club officers here, if you have someone that is in charge of admissions at your shows make sure that they know who to charge and who not to.
Our local club has never charge a gate in 30 years of existance and we are still surviving.
