Could be the piston seals, could the pump. I had an 8N so I remember the need for PTO to run to run the pump. You have two levers, I believe, one for position, one for draft, they both have to be up to hold the three point up. Since there's no valve in the line and the controls control the pump, if the pump leaks the three point won't stay up. Fixing the pump is easier than fixing the cylinder, but you may need to do both. After 50 years things do wear and break... The pump gets abused by being at the bottom of the housing and can get split with water under the oil when the water freezes. Both repairs are covered in the I&T shop manual as I recall. Don't have it anymore. Gerald J.
