My two cents (let me put my flak jacket on first). I farm with 40 series John Deere, and I love that series. I don't think John Deere has built a superior tractor since the 55 series. Unfortunatley, the game the dealers are playing around here is price the used machines close to the new, then the new doesn't seem so outrageous. I think John Deere missed the boat with the 5000 series built in the States. They are no where close to Mannheim quality. In this area they are competing with Landinis, Masseys, and New Holland. And the truth be told, if I was to by new, it would be a New Holland. The cab, and layout is much more comfortable. Did you know that on the JD vineyard tractors the remote levers are in front of the seat , between your legs? And you have to use these levers if you put a loader on. I'm sorry but in this day and age that's ridiculous, especially when you have to pay $6000 more for those models. The only thing Deere really has going for them is instant parts availability. But that's not going to be enough in the future. I think the best thing that could happen is for someone to take Deere down a notch or two, just to remind them who it was that put them at the top in the first place.
