I think you need a standard belt, but you need a different pulley on the alternator to match the older belt design. Changing the alternator pulley is easier than changing the waterpump and crankshaft pulleys. You may have to have one made. The common pulleys on alternators have a much smaller groove than the 9N vintage engines and if you go to a smaller belt, then you short change the water pump and fan. The pulleys' have to match both width and V angle to work well. Check for timing and for intake manifold leaks that may be making the engine run lean. Both will cause it to run hot. Check the load you have on it. Check the radiator cap for holding pressure. If it doesn't hold rated pressure you will boil, though not necessarily at a temperature much higher than the normal operating pressure.
