It fills while running. Be careful when you put the converter back in or you can damage the pump. Rotate it going back in and you should feel it drop into the different splines three distinct times. When it is completely inserted, it is very close to the pump and you should then have to "pull it forward" to bolt to the flywheel. Also, one of the boltholes on the flywheel is an "indexing" hole. Instead of being round, it is vertically slotted. Put this bolt in first and this will assure that the other boltholes will align correctly. Allan
