Usually I don't respond to these threads, but so much has been said over the years about trailer house axels. Now what the heck defines them as such and what is the difference!!! All trailer house manufactures used either Hadco, Dexter, or Philip Industry axels. These are the same axel used on the utility trailers, be it either 3rd. point pull or fifthwheel, gooseneck, horse trailers and lite equipment trailers.I was an OEM and I have challenged so called experts to prove to me what the difference was, with the axels sitting sit by side, bearing, races, hubs, spindles, and main tube ( be it solid square or round tubing) Geess, guess what for some reason most axels used exactly the same parts...go figure!!! So I disclosed all the old wifes tales!!! Most OEM trailer suppliers will tell you that there is a difference, because they want to sell you thier product. I sold axels(Phillips industries)but if I was ask about a praticular axel or was shown, I surely would not lie to make a dime!! Give the honest answer!!

99% of the time was not axel failing, but was frame structure above, poorly designed combination of all components; exceeding the total capacity of axels, tires, springs and least but surely not last Wheels. Too lite of hangers or home made hanger, not welded on properly and the list goes on and on.

Most trailer house axels are of higher load capacity (8000 lb) than alot of the commercial trailers, excluding axels requiring dual wheel setup and ones required on commercial trailers.

Just my opinion after being in the industry for
period of time.

PS. I got out of the field as it got to the point most people wanted junk trailers, cut corners cut cost, and I refused to build junk, sold out and moved on!! My name ,rep and a$$ would have been on the line ... libility Factor... MOST important to me was My NAME...
