John, I'm thinking that because the brushes are 80 degrees apart and the posts 100 degrees apart that when the mag is 180 out that there's poor alignment at one of the brush positions, maybe both. Not so bad to keep it from firing, but adding a longer gap, more pronounced with centrifugal advance of high speed running. True the fan tip of the brush should compensate some but it also has to handle advance and I think handling advance and reversed wires with the shaft out 180 means you get off the edge of the brush. A dirty or wet cap and a heavy load may be what it takes to make this be detectable. I'd have to make some drawings to check my thoughts, and I don't have any 2 cylinder mag to look at. Gerald
