Andi, The International Cub Lo Boy was built from 1955 - 1968. It was basicly a Farmall Cub with the rear axle drop housings rotated forward 90 degrees and a lower front axle.
The International Cub 154 Lo Boy was built from 1968 - 1974. I think this is the tractor you are talking about. It was a modernized, centered up version of the old Cub. It was styled simular to the Cub Cadet. It used the same 60 cu in engine but the engine was tweeked and turned up to produce more power. It also used a belt drive starter/generator rather than the gear drive starter and regular generator. It had a live pto which was belt driven. It was also available with a 3 point hitch. It is an excellent mowing tractor, but is not as rugged overall as the original Farmall Cub and does not have the vision or clearance for truck type farming or large gardening that the original Cub had. Things that are prone to be high maintaince items or expensive repair items on the 154 Lo Boy are, all of the steering and steering linkage is very weak and prone to wear and slop, the generator/starter is very expensive to rebuild or replace, and the belt driven pto has to be adjusted rather often. As far as the drive train and engine itself, it is the same rugged components as the Farmall Cub and with proper maintanince will give very long and satisfactory life. The Farmall Cub in Nebraska Test # 575 yielded 9.87 db hp and 10.39 belt hp. corrected to sea level maximum horsepower was 10.08 db and 10.75. The International Cub 154 Lo Boy was never tested at Nebraska as it was never sold as a farm tractor. I believe the adds rated it at 16 horsepower at the time (it may have been 18). Harold H
