On my Hydro 70, the factory tires were 15.5x38s. I put a set of 15.5x38R2 on a second set of rims to play better in the mud. The only problem that this senario presented was that those tires should have been sold with a gift certificate good at the auto parts store for at least 50 feet grade 70 half inch tow chain. One half turn with those tires when you were not moving and instantly jacked up on the frame. The D312 had enough power to handle the larger diameter tires. When the 15.5x38s were worn, I installed a set of 16.9x38s, thinking that if abit bigger was good , that more was better..... After one short year those 16.9ers found a new home on a 706-310er. A much better match. Then being only SLIGHTLY humbled, I had a set of 14.9x38s installed on the H70. Now this was a proper match. The ricers were no longer used as there were bigger tractors to do the tillage ( with bigger R2 tires and heavier, longer tow devices....). These 14.9 tires were a perfect fit. With 7.50x16 fronts the tractor no longer had that donehill slant. The 312 was a good match for the added traction and increased road speeed. I purchased a F656D that had widened rims and 18.4x38 tires. These were too much tire for the rear end and the motor. I had to rebuild the transmission and the differential of the tractor. After that operation (both on the tractor and my wallet) I installed 15.5x38s on the 656. With 6.50x16, the tractor was sitting level. A slight adjustment to the governer on the 282 and the transport speed (lack of) problem was corrected. I would be hesitent to install any tire larger than 14.9x38 on your tractor. I think that it would be too much and would remove the performance/snappiness from the unit. Also with a Hydro transmission,there appears to be more load on the powertrain. Just my opinions and experiences on the best liked tractor that I had.
