Well that's a pretty dangerous situation. If each axle is designed (in this case) to carry 3500 lbs., then how do you expect one axle to stop 7000 lbs.? It wasn't designed to do it. Sure it might work fine a few times, but what about when you really need it? What I've never been able to understand is why the general public, and the government let this continue. What do you think would happen the first time there was an accident with a GM car with brakes just on one axle? Lawsuit city, that's what. There would also be public outrage if tractor trailers only had brakes one one axle, why do you think they put brakes on the front axles now? Just forget about public safety for a minute, but why would you haul around a prized possesion like a tractor on something that may or may not be able to stop? This is something I feel very strongly about, and I wish people would start seeing past their wallets.
