Stepmom's dad is a WW II vet, believe a bomber pilot, he's well into his 80's, maybe late 80's very nice fellow, sometimes a little dry on conversation, but it's great when he does mention anything about the past, was taking him to pick up his boat at the marina and he mentioned how often they used to rebuild automobile engines back in the late 30's, and recall once he said not to do something ( forgot what that was )even if there are "bombers over San Fransisco ! " LOL. He rides horses everyday, like clockwork, sometimes he's a bit ornery, it's age, which gets us all, but he gets admiration from all of us. I've learned plenty about handling those 4 legged compost machines from him. He's very active, I hope we all live so long and enjoy life like he does. Have a great uncle from the same era, a Marine in WWII, people from those times are disappearing quickly, and like you say, you can learn a lot from them and certainly enjoy a cold one listening to them.
