My old Blazer fuel tank rusted out at the rear just above the seam where the two halves were joined - too much salty road dust. I removed tank, made sure it was absolutely empty and dry - computer fan run overnight forcing air into fuel gage/fuel intake port on top, and out the fill vent. Then I went ahead and welded a patch over the offending area with a wire welder. Took several tries with to get a leak proof seal, but finally accomplished it. Kept checking for leaks, filling tank with water, until I was satisfied no leaks, then dry it out and reinstall. While you've got the tank off is an excellent time to change out the shocks, as you can get to them from below!
