: I have a farmall 300. When I bought it it had a wire going from the battery cable to the coil which had to be connected in order to start the tractor and keep it running. Furthermore the generator was not charging the battery even though it is in good order. I have checked the wires for a short and have found none. It is my belief that the voltage regulator has been wired incorrectly at some time. THere are 4 posts on the regulator marked F,L, Batt, and Gen, . If anyone can provide me with a schematic or let me know where these wires should lead it would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

OK Pat, here goes. First thing is check battery polarity, it should be POSITIVE ground. Also this tractor can be 6 volt or 12 volt, doesn't matter as long as the battery, regulator,& gen are the same. Wiring on regulator goes like this... Gen Term wire goes to Term A on generator. F Term wire goes to Term F on generator. Batt Term wire goes to ammeter. L Term wire is connected but not used. If battery polarity was wrong you may have to replace the regulator. Good Luck!
