the govt doesnt require testing and posting of fuel milage on heavier trucks. definitly go witht he 2500. you get alot beefier alot beefier truck transmission,rear end etcetc and if you actually compare the spec sheets and look at the price off the 2500 compared to 1500 its not very much for all that you get. you migth as well get the 2500 as far as fuel economy too, if you gear the 2500 and the 1500 the same it should get the same fuel milage. as far as the duramax that is an awsome combo annd cold weather starting is absolutly no problem. none. with the new computers that monitor coolent temp, iat (intake air temp) etc and have electronic injectors (ie fire the injectors 2 or 3 times or more instead of just once they can do amazing things alter timing etc and cold weather starting isnt a problem with the newer diesels. good glow plugs are still a must but most older diesels starting them was a bear even with all glow plugs working. company has duramax's and have started to 0 degrees not plugged in(dont advise but things happen breakers trip, cords get unplugged) and never had one not start or have to use either (which is a huge no no with glow plugs and aluminum.) i would go with the diesel and for sure the 2500.
