Two tractors on one trailer, one 4500 lb and one 5500 lb. There has been a lot of debate on the size of chain 5\16 or 3\8 and rachet or pull over binder and two or four on each tractor. Also don't forget, do you use grade 43 or grade 70. The law says minimum grade 70, one to each corner of each tractor and only rachet binders. The cost to replace what I have with 3/8 chains and rachet binders would be around $300.00 per tractor. I would like to have other views about this and to find out if the law is really pushing this on those of us just hauling our own tractors ect. One story was about an antique tractor puller hauling his own tractor was pulled over in Pa. and fined for a unsecured load and wasn't aloud to move till he had 3/8 grade 70 chains and grade 70 rachet binders on all four corners. As the story was told the man had one 5\16 chain to each side in front and one 3\8 chain to rear center of tractor to each corner of trailer binders where all pull over type. The tractor was a Farmal M so that should put the tractor weight, I would guess to be 5000-6000lb and I would'nt think twice about hauling a tractor of that size chained on this way. So what is your opinion or view?

My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
