Consumers anymore could care less about quality, cost is all that matters, and this is evidenced by brand name companies abandoning all pretext of quality, and solely riding on their past reputation. Look at Black and Decker, Fram, Champion, (if in fact Champion spark plugs were ever any good), the quality control problems on John Deere. Everything is designed for the home-owner or do it yourselfer. They remember the name and reputation from their youth, and unwittingly suppose the quality is still there. Look at what idiocy once useful magazines like Popular Mechanics and Popular Science have become, look no further than right here on these "bulletin boards" to see the complete idiocy that comprise a lot of these questions. These are the people these manufacturers are marketing to, professionals have their own sources, but the mass market is where the money is. All you need to do is to read the advertisments in these home-owner magazines to get an idea of that these companies no longer care about long term satisfaction.
