Thanks everyone for your responses; they were very helpful. We ended up getting the tractor, but now are having a bit of trouble starting it! ;) Anyone have ideas, or should I post to the JD forum? Cranking fine, battery seems ok. Last fall it started up pretty well, but now it just doesn't seem to fire. The gas cap was off for a while, but I added water remover ... with no effect. I'm a bit of a mechanical neophyte: what's a good way to test for spark? Or timing? Or gas flow? Thanks all, I really appreciate the help. John
