I have a 332 with just over 1040 hours. It has smoked since it was new in '87. Not real bad unless under a load. It will belch pretty good if you whack the throttle from idle or advance the hydro lever real quick. Does the deck and drive belts turn freely? If it smokes constantly, I would suspect something is a little tight causing a load on it. May even be the alternator loading it if it has bad bearings. As far as the intake goes, there isn't much there to check. Out of the filter is a very short rubber hose that goes directly to the intake manifold which is a very short run. One thing to check is that the rubber hose is not kinked or twisted. I have seen that happen before. The 330 was only available for 2 years I believe and then it was replaced with the 332 which really just had a few more features. You are probably in the 85 to 86 range. Those little Yanmars don't usually have longevity issues, but anything is possible. Most I have seen have zero problems after several thousand hours, but my dad has a 430 @ 1000 hrs is on the third injector pump. That is a different engine than yours and is the only one that I have seen this much trouble with. Good luck on your diagnosis.

He froze to death getting this tractor out of the barn to pull a truck out of the ditch before I was born. Anyway my dad and aunt had to sell it at the auction,
