Hi Mike, According to ASME/ASA B18.2-1962, Glossary of Terms for Mechanical Fasteners, they are called "external tooth", "internal tooth", and "internal-external tooth" lock washers. Yes, all three versions exist. I have no idea why you would choose one over the other two. I can only guess that they might have increasing "locking power" as the number of "fingers" or prongs increase. That would make the internal tooth version the lowest and the internal-external version the highest as far as locking ability goes. Rod
