A certain major engine manufacture came out with that basic stement 20 plus years ago and they used it to determine if you had an oil consumption problem. Also another thing oil on consumption. We had a consutant one time who was good and also made this statement, All diesel will burn oil. A lot of them make some of that up with incomplete combustion from not burning 100% of the fuel injected into the engine, especially light load condition durring short periods of operation. There is a good size Cooper engine not too far from here and if it burns a couple hundred gallon of oil a week it is no big deal. The last I knew a one cylinder overhaul for that engine is close to $100,000.00 It is a V-16 full ported two stroke.
