I was reading in the paper here this morning, an article about Sir Edmund Hillary (first man to climb Mount Everest in '52 I think it was). Anyways, he is leading some sort of a protest against construction of an ice road across Antarctica because of it's environmental effects, etc. Hillary is now 85 years of age. The article mentioned that in 1957, Hillary led an expedition from his home base in New Zealand and drove across the Antarctic ice cap to the south pole in a MODIFIED FARM TRACTOR. Nothing more was specified about the trip or the machine. Anyone out there know more about it and maybe give us some details? I'd be interested in what tractor(s) was/were used and what the modifications were.
