I have a service manual for the Lo-boy tractors, as I have one myself (1964). The manual said that until the late fifties, the max RPM was 1600. After that, to boost hp they increased it to 1800. I have mine set to 1800 and have a good amount of power for my mowing needs. I would be a little nervous setting it any higher due to the expense of an entire engine breakdown should something happen at the higher RPM, (which the engine was never designed for). If you are loosing a lot of power with the mower engaged, check for proper governor setting, and check the mower. You should be able to turn the blades with your finger with very little effort (while the belt is disconnected from the rear PTO), any binding or roughness should be checked out and taken care of. Good luck!
