I don"t know a lot about these tractors either and I have been looking at the 471 myself. I will tell you all that I have found out. The 471 is about the same tractor as the 271 that has been built for the past 5 years or more. From what I have been able to find out it is a well proven tractor with old, simple technology which I personally like. I like the fact that they use metal hoods and fenders instead of the plastic like the Deere and New Hollands use. I bought a 5320 John Deere about a year ago and like the tractor fine but am thinking of selling it because of all the plastic.I just discovered that mine has a plastic valve cover and oil filler neck! All of the Massey dealers that I have talked with say they have been getting very good service out of the 451 and 471,the larger series have not been out long enough for them to know much about them. The 491 and 492 are nice looking tractors. Good luck with your choice!
