Larry.........I can't hardly buy that it's the throw out bearing. That bearing only runs when you push the clutch. Other wise it remains still while the tractor clutch pedal is out. I'm thinking that there is the possibility that the springs in your pressure plate are loose from the years of use. Possibly they have lost some of thier tension and the chatter you hear is them as they spin. When you push the clutch in then there is pressure applied to them from the fingers in the pressure plate and the chatter quits. Does the clutch slip? especially under a hard pull? This is the only solution that I can come up with other than look for worn linkages that would sit and rattle while the engine is running. I'm not sure on that model of tractor but there is a possibility that there is an inspection plate on the bellhousing. Take it off and see if you can get your fingers in there or some kind of tool and see if you can wiggle the springs on the pressure plate. They should be tight with the clutch pedal out and even tighter with the clutch pedal depressed. I hope this helps you. Good Luck!!!! Regards Dieselman
