Any other symptoms with the machine??? Transmission slipping , or other odd characteristics? Try removing a piston plug. They are the plugs that are aroumd the circumference of the pump housing. remove the spring under the plug and then remove the piston. Check its condition. Smooth sides , face that rides on the cam should be smooth and square with the sides. The piston should be a close tolerance fit in its bore....no lateral movement. If the re is not a problem with a component before or after the pump then sometimes all it needs is to be resealed. There are numerous o-rings, especially in the stroke control valve, thats the cover on the back side of the pump, that can become brittle and ineffective with age . Also the inlet and outlet valves can leak internally with age and wear. (these are located in the pump also. Pump noise can also come from the splined coupling between the crank pulley and the pump shaft . This is a common wear item.
