We have a 16 X 20 chicken house. It is divided down the long end into two sections. On one side we have divided that into two sections. One for our 14 layers and one for raising fryers, etc. The nest box is the thing I get the most compliments on. It actually "hangs" on the wall jutting out into the open area. On the chicks side there is a 4inch lip for them to jump up on. There is a lid on the parlor side of the nest box and we simply lift that to pick up the eggs without going into the chicken side. Very handy. We hung cloth across the front of the nest box to give the girls some privacy. It's about 18 inches off the floor. The little kids that visit love to go lift that lid looking for eggs.
