9N Year/Serial No. Question

Yesterday at an auction a very clean 9N with a combination clutch/brake lever on the left was sold. My used tractor price guide/serial number list says serial no. on left of block. There, on a raised boss about 3/4 by three inches, high and l/3 from the block rear was the number "6" stamped in the block? Could this really be the serial number? The steering column plate was painted over and illegible.... Thanks Ps...it sold for $2,150
