The 7740 would have the same basic drive train as the other 7 series. I've got a 7710, 7600, and 7610. My dad has a 7600 and 7610. They all have a lot of blowby and have since new (a steady stream but you can still see the hood). When the PTO is on at idle they all sound like they are flying apart. Thats just normal for what I've observed. Great tractors, among the 5 weve got over 25,000 hours, nothing major on any of them except clutches. Anything under $20,000 (with CHA) in decent shape and its priced right.
