There are only a few manufacturing plants out there. They ALL have their "top" brands and their "knockoffs". For instance, Tempstar is made by Carrier with the SAME components in the SAME factory with the SAME warranty! NOT the same price tho! 20-40% less depending on your wholesaler's volume. Bottom line is... research.
Also, sounds like you intend to stay a while so consider the payback on the more efficient 12 and 13 SEER units. Cost more initially but, cost of electricity is going up daily. AND, go with LP gas heat if you can. One last thing... MOST manufacturers WON'T warranty an owner installed unit other than the compressor. As you read below, screw type is best. Don't know if anyone even uses the all aluminum coils anymore. Alum fins and copper tubing is the norm. Buy the outside air intake option if it is offered. Cheap and lets you "fresh air" the house when the weather is nice. Good luck!
