Hey,
Yes, new trucks are a total Rip-Off. brand new trucks are at least 30 grand for a plain 1/2 ton.

That's why I rebuilt my '77 Chev Silverado Trailering Special 2 years ago.
I did all the work myself, and it saved my thousands. My total investment was about $3500 and is as good as new.
i bought this truck in running order for $700 from my father in law's friend(original owner) for $700 with these parts recently replaced: exhuast, Starter, Altenator, fuel pump, carburetor, winshield, tires, front end, brakes & fuel tank. the interior & powertrain was ecellent. it has 175,000 miles. Never been in accident, All original & well looked after.
here's all my costs in parts :

- Parts truck (for Box, Doors, & cab) $200
- radiator (got used from friend $Free
- paint, (1 coat primer, 2 coats red, 2 coats clear) $500
- Misc. Body hardware & accecories $100
- Complete engine overhaul $600
- New Drop-in Transmission $450
- Other misc. items & hardware $1000

I rebuilt this truck all myself and I had a decent shop to work in. As far as I'm concerned, it looks & runs as good as it did 25 years ago.
It gets 17 MPG. It pulls great. It has a Stock 350 with 4bbl carb. i'm not afriad to to drive it across the country. It's excellent. parts for these trucks are dirt cheap & easy to find. I know it's not worth anthing if I sell it, But I plan on keeping that truck forever.

Good luck,
Rusty
