I have a set of meg-mow blades on my JD725 and love them. We no longer sweep or rake leaves, they disinagrate with one mower pass. I ridge till and hit my unchopped cornstalks with a Furst harrow in early April. April 18 we had south wind with 80 mph gust blowing corn residue into my yard into 4' "drifts" and covering my lawn. We had to load up the drifts, but we mowed the lawn and they were 90% gone, turned to shredded mulch. I overseeded winter rye in our chicken pasture to refurbish the burnt spots and mowed right through the headed out rye. They don't pull harder, they start harder, by about 25%. Once they're going I think they pull easier. They sound like a powerfull helicopter running.Do what you want to, or waste your time trying to build some unproven contraption that will rip your gearbox out, but I spent a whopping $150 and have a beautiful lawn.I set my height at 3" so I don't have to mow as often, contrary to the old way of thinking of the shorter the better {3" X 1.5 = 4.5" or 2" x 1.5 = 3"]. I read about the blades in Farm Show magazine, called up, and Roy Megli, the inventor who owns a lawn care business answered the phone. He answered all my questions, sent me a set. you can check them out @ www.meg-mo.com.
