Hey Reed, welcome to the forum. I've got a cabin on Mille Lacs with a small acreage (for you non-Minnesotans, that is also North Central Minnesota). As others have already stated, you're going to get a lot of advice on what to buy! Even though I don't have one, I would probably agree that a Ford N series would fit your bill pretty nicely. I went a little larger, I have an IH-340 Utility. Availability of parts is very important for any make you decide to get. The Ford N series tractor is not a huge farm tractor but would allow you to get the attachments you want. So far they are not over-priced, but the way we baby-boomers are gobbling them up, they are definitely not going to get any cheaper. The classified ads on this site would be a good place to check for price comparisons. You should be able to find one with some of the attachments you want for a lot less than the $ 5k. You don't say how many acres you're planning to plow, but if it's a bunch, it might take a while with the Ford N. Regarding the better half, it depends on her background, but hey, obviously she agreed to buy into living on an acreage, so just tell her having a tractor is a main part of that lifestyle. Tell her you'll let her drive it once in a while. Good luck.
